Lonely Grave - Statutory Declaration Thomas Whyte

In the matter of Thomas Whyte deceased

I WILLIAM COSH, of Wedderburn, in the District of Mount Korong, in the Colony of Victoria, Miner, MAKE OATH and SAY that I knew and was well acquainted with Thomas Whyte of Wedderburn in the district of Mount Korong, in the Colony of Victoria, Miner, deceased, and frequently visited him during his illness in the months of June and July in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, and remember of him dying in his tent at Wedderburn aforesaid, on the twenty first day of the said month of July and year aforesaid FARTHER I was present at Wedderburn aforesaid on the twenty second day of said month of July and year aforesaid along with Richard Donaldson and William Martin, both of Wedderburn aforesaid, miners and several other persons, and assisted to did a grave, and remove and bury the body of the said Thomas Whyte therein; FARTHER that at the date of the death of the said Thomas Whyte there was no Deputy Registrar of Deaths appointed for the said District of Mount Korong and consequently I do not believe any record was kept of the death of the said Thomas Whyte AND FARTHER in so far as I remember the said Thomas Whyte was five feet six or seven inches in height, had a red or flushed face, with a prominent nose, and stooped a little when walking, and looked like a person of forty years of age; and in the course of my conversations with him, he told me he either came from or belonged to, the City of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Sworn at Wedderburn in the District of Mount Korong in the Colony of Victoria this twenty six day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty nine, before me WILLIAM COSH
